According to a report, iOS at present has an 18.8% market share worldwide in 2nd Quarter of 2012. Here we are evaluating one of the most admired Mobile OS of today.

User Experience and Interface

Apple claims its mobile OS is the “World’s most easy-to-use operating system”. iOS wins fair and square in featuring a simple, graceful and entire beautiful user interface which is Apple’s hallmark with all its products. With one home screen it still does not support widgets or multiple screens. It can be used in 30 different languages and has more than 50 different keyboard layouts.

Applications present you the flexibility to do more than what the manufacturer offers in the boxed device. Apps have become a key aspect in smartphone buying decisions. Apple App Store is leading the pursuit with more than 695,000 mobile apps both free and paid.

Business Use

For Business users, iOS works with MS Exchange server and other related solutions to deliver push e-mail services to keep you connected with work even when you are not in the office. iOS also presents secure access to private corporate networks via VPN. It also has a productivity suite called “iWork” and document editing and viewing apps are also available on the App Store. Mobile Safari is the default browser for both iPhone and iPad. Apple does not support Adobe Flash functionality which has been a major concern. The latest versions come with Siri which is miles ahead of any other voice assistant available on any other OS.

Multitasking and other Technicalities

When iOS was first launched it had a major gap that is multitasking but succeeding versions introduced some level of multitasking still the latest version is not 100% multitasked. iOS is based on the “OS X” kernel  and supports pseudo multitasking. It has built-in security features against malware and viruses and does not require any separate apps for this purpose.
